Not all smartphones are created equal, but the new OnePlus One (not to be confused with that other One, the HTC One) is roughly equivalent on paper with some of the most expensive smartphones in the world, albeit with a price that puts it much more within reach than most of those. The OnePlus One starts at $299 for a white 16GB version, and will also offer a 64GB variant in black for $349 when it goes on sale in mid-May. It’s a Nexus-killer, with more impressive specs at more affordable prices, running CyanogenMod for a highly customizable user experience.
The OnePlus One features a Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quad-core processor, like the one powering the Samsung Galaxy S5, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch IPS 1080p display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, a 13MP rear-facing camera supplied by Sony capable of recording 4K video and a 5MP front-facing shooter. It features a 3100mAh battery, offers dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, plus a wide range of GSM, WCDMA and LTE band support.
The phone isn’t without its downsides – the battery isn’t removable and there’s no microSD card slot for storage expansion, but the use of CyanogenMod as its OS is interesting in itself. OnePlus is founded by former Oppo VP Pete Lau, where he spearheaded preloading that Android fork on the company’s N1 flagship device. The One is emblazoned with the Cyanogen logo on the back, as well as an etched OnePlus mark too, and offers tons of customization options, open access and the ability to flash ROMs, SMS encryption and more out of the box.
The mid-may launch date is for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States. While it’s hard to crack the stranglehold of the top OEMs in the smartphone market, this upstart definitely presents a compelling case – we’ll have to see if that’s enough to rouse consumers from their current OEM comfort zones.

lg rumor 2 in Sprint UA profile, QHD displayappears again (Updated)

Sprint has made a few revisions to its User Agent profile listing for the LG-LS990 (LG G3). Fortunately the QHD display remains, instead the alterations affect the device’s RAM and camera specifications.

The handset’s RAM has dropped back down to 2GB from 3GB, putting it back inline with the LG G2. On the plus side, the camera modules have received a bump in resolution. The profile now lists the device as having a 16 megapixel rear camera, and the front facing sensor has also received a slight boost to 2.4 megapixels. We’ll have to wait and see what other changes this brings compared with the G2′s camera.

Finally, the software number has changed to “LS990ZV1″ but the profile still states that the device comes with Android 4.4.2, so the update is most likely making adjustments to LG’s specific features.

Back in mid-March a user agent profile from LG’s own website suggested that the upcoming LG G3 would come with a QHD (1440×2560) pixel resolution display. In fact, we’ve been hearing similar rumors since the beginning of the year. These details have been spotted once again, this time in a user agent profile from US carrier Sprint. As well as hinting yet again at a QHD display, the profile contains virtually an entire hardware spec sheet for LG’s next flagship smartphone.
The device in question is listed as the LG-LS990, which is expected to be the Sprint version of the LG G3, whilst the carrier-less version retains the D850 tag that we have seen before. If the QHD displays turns out to be correct, it’s likely that LG will be using the 5.5 inch QHD display that it already unveiled, which has a pixel density of 530ppi.
As well as display information, the UA suggests that the LG G3 will be sticking with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, like the one found in the G2, rather than the slightly updated Snapdragon 801 chip found in other new flagship handsets. Sadly then, this spec suggests that the G3 won’t be one of the first smartphones to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 805 SoC. LG also seems to have brought the RAM count up to 3GB this time around.

A UA profile on Sprint's website has caught the attention of rumor hounds for showing what sounds a little bit like the LG G3. The interesting part is that while some details of the LG LS990, like 2K display, sound an awful lot like what must be the G3, other details, like last year's processor and camera resolution, make it sound a little fishy. With only a couple of months until the G3 is launched, we're about to hit prime leak territory.

The G3 specs we've been banking on until this point were a 5.5-inch 2K display with 2,560x 1,440 pixel resolution, either a quad-core Snapdragon 801 at 2.5GHz or an octa-core MediaTek MT6595 (which will benchmark lower than the Qualcomm chip). The G3 rumors thus far have also pegged the device for 3 GB of RAM, advanced personalization features and the perennial leak favorites: water-resistant and dust-proof with a fingerprint scanner. We're hedging bets on the last few of those but the previous specs sound highly workable to us. In case you're wondering too, despite the G3 most likely being tagged the D850, Sprint's version of the G2 was indeed the LS980, so the model number LS990 isn't a complete no-no here. Here's what appeared on Sprint:

As you can see, some specs sound legit, like the 5.5-inch 2K display and 3 GB of RAM, but others just don't seem to fit, like using a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor at 2.3 GHz (the same that appears in the G2) and sticking with the same camera setup as found on the G2. While increasing the camera resolution is hardly necessary at this point it does seem a little odd in the context of ballooning megapixel counts elsewhere. However, the profile also shows the 'G3' now has microSD card support - which would be a nice addition - but only up to 64 GB, not 128 GB, as with every other flagship popping up. There's also no battery mentioned. I'm very much out to lunch on the validity of these specs, but we know you like to see them, so here they are.

OnePlus One specs get updated: Snapdragon 801 2.5 GHz, 3 GB RAM

The OnePlus One is set to arrive on April 23 and the just updated specs are something to really look forward to: a quad-core Snapdragon 801 running at 2.5 GHz and 3 GB of RAM in support. The OnePlus One will ship with CyanogenMod, a 3,100 mAh battery and 5.5-inch 1,080p display, this thing is going to be a rocket ship! As OnePlus justifiably claim, this will be the fastest phone on the market.

The Snapdragon chipset used in the OnePlus One is the 8974AC Snapdragon 801, which is clocked at 2.5 GHz rather than the 2.3 GHz we've seen in the Snapdragon 800. The Galaxy S5 also has the Snapdragon 801, but only 2 GB of RAM. The only other device shipping with the same CPU/RAM combo as the OnePlus One is the Oppo Find 7 which also ships with a 2K display. It'll be very interesting to see who claims the ''fastest'' title come April 23 as it'll all be down to optimization and OS.

The OnePlus One was originally going to ship with the Snapdragon 800, so we can only assume the jump to the 801 was to future-proof the OnePlus One against the next wave of flagships and keep up with the Oppo Find 7 which launched recently too. The OnePlus One will cost under 400 USD and also feature always-on voice recognition. If that price/specs combo doesn't make it interesting to you, nothing will.

Galaxy S5 mini tech specs leak: Super AMOLED display, KitKat and more

When Samsung comes out with a flagship, the manufacturer always likes to launch a whole catalogue of variants, just like when saw with the launch of the S4, which spurred the S4 mini, S4 Active and S4 Zoom. Now, new leaked tech specs for a Galaxy S5 mini have surfaced and we are keen on seeing how much of the S5 this smaller, mid-range version will get. Read on for the details.

The Galaxy S5 mini, according to Sammobile’s own sources, is reported to come under the model number SM-G800, as well as sport a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 ppi, a dazzling improvements over the S4 mini’s 4.3-inch display with qHD resolution. Just because it’s smaller doesn't’ mean users need to settle for less, though this will certainly be reflected in the price. The S5 mini is said to come with an 8 MP back camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera. The device will run with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but won’t be of the same caliber as the S5. Sammobile seems sure that it will be a 400 variant of the processor line just like the S4 mini, but I’m hoping for more. This all will be complemented by 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, supported by a 2,100 mAh battery, an improvement from the Galaxy S4 mini’s 1,900 mAh battery.

In terms of extras, there are allegations that it could be water and dust proof like its big sibling, but there has been not a peep about a possible heart rate monitor or fingerprint sensor, which I think won’t be the case, seeing as this will surely be a mid-range phone with (hopefully) a mid-range price. Though we have no info about when, where and what yet, the mini-me version of the S5 could be released in June.

It's the time of year when all the big guns are dropping new flagships and others are just on the horizon, so if you're thinking about picking up a new smartphone for the summer, here's the specs comparison you need to help you compare apples to apples. Even though the LG G3 hasn't been made official yet, we've taken the liberty of taking a shot at the specs you might be able to expect. But take those with a grain of salt.

The Galaxy S5 was a bit of a let down for many when it was announced and the Xperia Z2 is a relatively minor improvement over the Z1 as far as flagship successors go. The Oppo Find 7 is a bit of a beast but we have yet to see a unit in the flesh. The HTC One M8 has pretty much blown everyone's socks off, including ours, and it just goes to show what can be achieved without needing the best specs available. The upcoming LG G3, while still residing in rumorville, will pretty much be the opposite – a premium specs machine that probably won't get as much attention as it deserves. Here's the numbers for you to ponder over in any case.

Price and availability

This is where things always get sticky, it's easy to compare numbers on a table, but a lot harder to evaluate just how much some of the ''extras'' are really worth. Not to mention some of these devices come in 16 GB models and others in 32 GB (or both). The Galaxy S5 is 650 USD (16 GB), the Xperia Z2 600-650 USD (16 GB), the Find 7 600 USD (32 GB), the One M8 650 USD (16 GB) and the G3 will cost who knows what, let's say 600-650 USD.

So while all of these flagships roll in at around the same price, the specs are all over the shop and the additional extras are entirely up to your taste. Hardware-wise, I'm tempted to give it to the Find 7, although the G3 could come in and top it, especially if it's running the newest version of Android (even with the rather awful Optimus UI). But all things considered, I think the HTC One M8 may very well stand the test of time in the same way as the previous version.
