htc one m8 specs here’s what you need to know

After plenty of teasing and heavy marketing, the newcomer OnePlus has now officially unveiled its OnePlus One handset at a special event in Beijing.
Ever since the launch of the company was announced by former Oppo exec Pete Lau, OnePlus has a promised us a device that “never settles”, breaking the mold to give us something worth truly being excited about. Whether the OnePlus One actually meets this ambitious goal is probably a matter of personal preference.
So what’s under the hood of the much-teased OnePlus One? At the heart of the device you’ll find all the hardware you’d expect from a flagship 2014 device including a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM and either 16 or 64GB internal storage. The OnePlus One also includes a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 13MP Sony Exmor IMX 214 rear cam, 5MP front cam, 4G LTE, a bevy of sensors, and a 3100 mAh LiPo battery.
The OnePlus One adopts a minimalist design language that is very reminiscent of the Oppo Find 5, and even the Find 7 to a somewhat lesser extent. Like Oppo’s devices, the OnePlus One offers a high-end build that feels good in the hands and is noticeably lighter than what you’d expect from a typical ‘phablet-sized device’. The OnePlus One will also feature removable covers that will come in a variety of different materials including wood and denim, though these backs won’t be available right at launch.
Probably one of the biggest selling points for the OnePlus One, however, is that it is the first device to be built front the ground up with CyanogenMod in mind. Unlike the Oppo N1 CM Edition, the OnePlus One features a custom-tailored version of Cyanogenmod that is designed to take advantage of all that the One has to offer.
Dubbed CyanogenMod 11S, this Android 4.4 KitKat-based OS not only includes everything you’d except from CM, it also adds several new features and even has a theme engine and store that allows you to truly customize the look and feel of the OnePlus One.

Pricing and expected availability

Looking at the specs above, it’s obvious that the OnePlus One isn’t a lightweight in terms of hardware prowess. A device with this kind of power under the hood could easily be priced at $550 or higher, but, remarkably, OnePlus will offer the One for just $299 for the 16GB model or $349 for the 64GB version. This puts the OnePlus into the same pricing category as the Nexus, and yet it delivers improved specs and a larger display.
The OnePlus One will initially be available in Belgium, Finland, Austria, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Taiwan, the UK and the United States.
The OnePlus One will become available from late May. OnePlus has several contests in the works and other ‘invite only’ ways of getting your hands on the device. OnePlus is even holding a special “smash” contest”, where you can apply and offer to smash your current phone and in exchange you’ll get a OnePlus One for just a buck!

Show Press Release

April 23, 2014 – Following months of anticipation, OnePlus today revealed their flagship device, the OnePlus One. Embodying the OnePlus motto of ‘Never Settle’, the OnePlus One boasts industry leading design, superior build quality and top of the line specs at a disruptive price point.
“By paying attention to the smallest details, taking a holistic approach to product design, and working with the best partners such as Cyanogen Inc. and Qualcomm Technologies, we have been able to create the greatest day to day user experience in a smartphone without compromise,” said Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus.
Steve Kondik, CTO of Cyanogen Inc. echoed Lau’s sentiments. “I am incredibly proud of the effort our team has put in to the CyanogenMod build for the OnePlus One. We’ve brought out the full potential of the hardware and complemented it with innovative new features to give users a fresh new experience and the tools to tailor the One to their personal style,” said Kondik. “We will continue to expand this effort to provide a genuinely enjoyable and powerful operating system for the user.”
Attention to the Smallest Details
The OnePlus One was designed to be beautiful, timeless and comfortable in the hand. Embracing this design language, the One features subtle curves, sleek lines and a slightly raised, jet-black display. Even the smallest details belong uniquely to OnePlus, from the custom cut and engineered PCB boards to the specially designed battery and dyed inner casing. Each component is meticulously aligned and adorned with a OnePlus logo for a gorgeous device inside and out. Measuring only 8.9mm thick, the OnePlus One is ergonomic and easy to grip, with a tapered edge of just 4.6mm.
CyanogenMod
Debuting with the One is CyanogenMod 11S, a special release tuned to take advantage of everything the One has to offer. CyanogenMod 11S reveals the first phase of a unique visual experience blending the best of Android with the freedom CyanogenMod is known for. Unlike most OEM skins, there are no limits to customizing your One – mix and match thousands of themes or return to stock with the new theme engine and store.
Advanced Camera and Gallery apps make capturing and viewing memories even more fun. Record your world in perfect detail with 4K video. Then relive it from the cloud in Gallery, organized by your life.
Championing privacy has been a core part of CyanogenMod’s purpose. SMS encryption between your One and CyanogenMod or TextSecure-compatible device means chats stay between friends. Privacy Guard keeps nosey apps at bay by helping you control how they use your data.
Fast, Smooth, Powerful
The OnePlus One is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processor with quad-core CPUs at speeds of up to 2.5GHz per core, making it the world’s current fastest available processor in a smartphone. Custom Krait CPU architecture, integrated 4G LTE connectivity, Qualcomm® Adreno™ 330 GPU and 3GB of LP-DDR3 RAM combine to offer a fluid and lightning quick user experience.
“Today’s premium mobile devices are measured by their ability to deliver immersive experiences through high-speed LTE connectivity and advanced multimedia, all without compromising performance or battery life,” said Raj Talluri, senior vice president of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are proud to have our Snapdragon 801 processor powering the unique OnePlus One to deliver innovative new user experiences to consumers around the globe.”
A 3100 mAh battery and energy efficient display work together to power the OnePlus One for more than a full day of use.
Experience More, Capture More
The OnePlus One packs a 5.5” 1080p full HD JDI screen. LTPS and TOL (Touch On Lens) technology provide an incredibly sharp picture and make the gorgeous 178 degree vision display significantly more shatterproof.
A Sony Exmor IMX214 13 megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash delivers amazing shots day or night, made more precise and detailed by the 6 physical lenses. Even selfies are more beautiful with a 5 megapixel distortion free front-facing camera and extra wide 80 degree capture angle.
High Quality and Useful Features
The OnePlus One is more than just amazing hardware. Uniquely engineered software offers features that you really want and simplifies your user experience without adding extra, unnecessary bloat. Voice command lets you wake the device or you can launch your favorite apps by drawing pre-set gestures on the sleeping screen. Choose between on screen and capacitive navigation buttons to suit your preference.
Pricing and Availability
The OnePlus One will initially be available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States in 16GB Silk White for $299/€269 and in 64GB Sandstone Black for $349/€299.

Microsoft Rolls Out The April Xbox One Update — Here’s What’s Inside

xb1 copy

Do you have an Xbox One? It’s update time! Get excited! Well, not too excited. Moderately excited.

Like the last few monthly updates, this month’s patch is mostly meant to bring in features that aren’t so much oh-my-god-brand-new as they are things that were surprisingly absent after the jump from Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

The new update should start hitting Xbox Ones this evening.

The things you’ll probably directly notice:

  • Games are now able to show a progress bar when a game is saving, rather than just a spinning icon.
  • You’ll now see alerts when an Xbox Live friend signs in. Microsoft says this was “one of the most requested features” — which makes sense, as it’s… kind of crazy that it wasn’t there to begin with
  • They’ve tweaked the GameDVR algorithm (the system that records the last few seconds of gameplay when you say “Xbox, record that!”) for better video quality.

The less obvious (behind-the-scenes) stuff:

  • Kinect’s voice/motion algorithms have been improved, with the main enhancement being a lower false-positive rate for “non-hand objects” triggering the sensor. If you’ve ever been laying on the couch and had the Kinect start tracking your foot, this is what they’re talking about
  • Blu-ray player hardware can now support 50 Hz video content, though the Blu-ray player app still won’t support it for a few days.
  • Improved controller/wireless headset connectivity
  • The Xbox One can now power cycle itself automatically after an overnight/standby update; previously, you’d have to manually reset the Xbox One if it updated while in standby mode.

Alas, still no sign of HBO GO.

Is your Android device laggy? Here’s how to fix it!

It happens to everyone, no matter what kind of make or model of device you own: as time wears on, your device starts to slow down and lag. It may be because you’ve downloaded power hungry apps or it may be because your cache has filled up to the brim. Regardless, it’s annoying and while sometimes a quick reboot will temporarily solve the issue, we’re delving a little bit further into some of the mains causes and solutions to these issues.

Clogged Memory

When you start to reach the limit on the SD card on your device, should you have one, you’ll notice that your device starts to slow down. If you’re showing signs of lag on your device and you’re using at least 80% of your storage capacity on your SD card, it might be time to go through your storage and do some cleansing.

With SD Cleaner, or a similar app,  it’ll log all the unnecessary files on your SD card that you can trash without any complications, mostly cached files and other miscellaneous files that will help clear up some space. However, always be careful when you’re deleting files and make sure you’re not deleting something important.

Hibernate Apps

When you’ve got a ton of apps that are running in the background, it can slow down your device and cause performance issues. Of course, you can always go into your apps and pick and choose which ones you want to Force Close or shut them down, but this is cumbersome and something you’ll have to keep doing each time you fire up a power hungry app.

greenify 1© Greenify

Thankfully, as long as your Android is rooted, you can use Greenify to help streamline the process. What it does classifies problem apps by sticking them into hibernation so that they can’t tie up any of the phones resources. This stops anything highlighted, including reminders, alarms, push notifications, etc.  Plus, hibernated apps can be “woken up” and used regularly when you tap on the app to initiate it.

Kill those power hungry Apps

A good way of figuring out what’s slowing down your device is determining which apps are pulling most of your devices resources. This is particularly important to find out prior to using Greenify as listed above.

There are a few easy ways to figure out what apps are taking up what resources, but one of the easiest is using WakeLock Detector. One you have this app, it’ll start logging statistics about the apps that are currently running. From there, you can see which apps are draining your battery that fastest and then figure out whether you want to keep them, shut them down, or Greenify them.

Clear the cache

Yeah, it seems super simple, but sometimes we forget that apps start to cache more and more data as time goes on. Thankfully, you can go through and delete the cache yourself manually by heading to Settings > Apps and selecting a particular app and then hitting the Clear Cache button. However, if you’ve got an abundance of apps, this will soon become really cumbersome and time consuming.

If you’re looking for a quicker method, you can grab an app like App Cache Cleaner, which will do all the work for you with a few taps on your device. It’ll list all the apps that currently have cached data stored on your device and then you can pick and choose which ones you want to clear, or do it all in one fell swoop.

You Might Be Breathing Ineffectively. Here's How to Fix That

You Might Be Breathing Ineffectively. Here's How to Fix ThatS

You'd think there's only one way to breathe, like the way you do naturally, but you'd be wrong. Certain methods take more work than others, and you can improve your health by doing it better.

Lifehacking blog Selfication explains a number of ways to breathe correctly, but the most important one is to breathe from your diaphragm. It's what singers learn to do and babies do naturally. Those deep breaths give both singers and little children the ability to project their voices powerfully, for better or worse. In your case, you can use it to get more oxygen and more energy. Selfication explains:

The air you breath in through your nose should go all the way down to your belly. Your breathing muscles consist of the diaphragm and muscles in the abdomen, chest, neck and shoulders.

70-80% of the inhaling should be done by the diaphragm so that your breathing is nice and deep. This has a couple of advantages:

  • It helps your lungs with the gas exchange which is much more effective way down in the lungs.
  • The diaphragm massages your liver, stomach and intestines and gives these organs a rhythmical balance.
  • The lymphatic system, which is important for our immune system, gets the help it needs to get rid of the waste products from the bowels.
  • The pressure in the chest and belly is decreased so that the heart won't have to work as hard.
  • More effective muscle work as the wrong breathing muscles won't have to do unnecessary work.
  • As the chest gets more relaxed so does the neck and shoulders and a s a result the likelihood of pain in these areas go down.

Selfication offers several more breathing tips that'll help you open up your air passages and gain more energy from the work you do breathing. Furthermore, good breathing can help keep you more calm and relaxed—it's a key point of meditation, after all. Be sure to read their full post for lots more useful information.
