Leaked images show off OnePlus One, StyleSwap covers too

 03 - UXiGMhb

The other day we reported on sketches and OnePlus One marketing/packaging materials that hinted at what the front and back of the upcoming handset might look like. If you weren’t sure what to think based on those pictures, the good news is we now have a more detailed look at press renders of the device, alongside what appears to be the StyleSwap covers that will allow you to change up the look of the device.

As you can see, the overall shape and look of the OnePlus One in these photos falls in line with the design language shown off in the packaging/retail materials that leaked the other day. The OnePlus One appears to employ a minimalistic design approach that is very Oppo-like in nature, with the handset borrowing heavily from the design of the Oppo Find 5 in particular. Of course, considering the founding members of OnePlus came from Oppo, this makes sense.

Whether the OnePlus One’s design is something you’d consider the phone to be “more attractive than just about any [device] on the market, with the exception of maybe the iPhone” is probably a matter of taste. That said, we have to admit those stylish swap covers certainly have us more than a little excited. Before we get too ahead of ourselves, however, it’s important to note that we can’t say with any certainty that these images are legit. While they certainly fit with what we’d expect from the handset, it’s possible these could be merely fan renders, so we’d take all of this with a grain of salt for now.

OnePlus will offer StyleSwap replaceable back covers: bamboo, denim and more

OnePlus press (2)

Although OnePlus has yet to fully unveil the OnePlus One to the world, the company continues to drop additional details about the handset’s hardware and recently we even learned the phone will even offer voice control in a manner similar to the Moto X.

Of course, what many of us really want to know is what the OnePlus One will look like. While OnePlus still isn’t ready to show off the handset’s design, they are at least giving us some new details relating to the One’s back.

Thanks to what OnePlus is referring to as “StyleSwap” covers, the OnePlus One will offer multiple color choices and even different textures such as denim, bamboo, kevlar, silk and sandstone. Obviously the latter two are the names of color/textures and are probably made of different types of plastic, but the other three are said to be made from their respective materials.

The designs are elegant and attractive, but still durable and strong. No matter how often you like to change the look of your phone, there will always be a cover that will fit the mood.

So in other words, the OnePlus One will have removable covers in a manner similar to the Moto G, though it takes things a step further by offering multiple different premium textures.

What else do we know about the OnePlus One? The OnePlus offers a 5.5-inch 1080p display while reportedly not being any wider than the Xperia Z1. Under the hood you’ll find a Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 3100 mAh battery and a 13MP rear cam. All of these specs are said to be offered in a package that is less than $400, and OnePlus says that doesn’t mean $399 either.

What do you think, are you excited for the OnePlus One based on what we’ve seen so far, or are we destined to be let down due to all the hype that the company has been attempting to generate?
