HTC posts countdown to March 25, will live stream the event

HTC Countdown

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the new HTC One 2014 had already been officially launched, given the number of leaks that we’ve seen, but there’s still actually a few days left to go until the device is made official. HTC has posted a countdown to the launch on its webpage, the timer will reach zero at 11AM EDT on Tuesday 25th March, that’s 3PM GMT, 4PM CET, or 2AM on Wednesday morning if you live down under. At the end of the countdown, HTC’s page will transform into a live stream of the launch event, where HTC is set to share the ins-and-outs of its new flagship smartphone.

Despite the huge number of leaks, there’s still plenty to look forward to during the live stream. We’ll be able to have our first official look at HTC’s new Sense 6 software and improved Zoe camera features. There’s also plenty to delve into on the hardware front too, including the new handset’s duo-camera feature and the company’s improved Boomsound speaker technology.

Here’s a little recap of what we expect to see from the handset at the launch event:

  • 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC
  • 4 Ultrapixel main rear camera, in duo-camera configuration
  • 5MP wide-angle front facing camera
  • 2600mAh battery
  • 16GB of internal memory with microSD card slot
  • New camera options, including Selective Focus and 3D imaging
  • New “double tap” and “Motion Launch” Sense 6 gesture features

Are you pumped for the launch of the HTC One 2014, do you think that the handset will live up to your expectations?

Is Verizon preparing to release the all-new HTC One on March 25th?

HTC logo aa 1

Earlier this week we learned that UK-based Carphone Warehouse has plans to release the all-new HTC One on March 25th at 4pm, the very day the handset is officially announced by HTC. Now thanks to in-store signage from Verizon, it seems possible that Big Red may also be preparing to release the handset on launch day.

htc-one-teaser

Although neither Verizon nor HTC has yet to confirm their plans, Verizon’s in-store signage (seen on right) teases us with the possibility by showing off a box with the silhouette of a phone and an HTC logo in the bottom left corner. On the phone’s front are the words “Get ready to hit refresh, 3.25 at 1PM ET”.

Now it’s important to point out this doesn’t necessarily mean that Verizon plans to sell the handset at 1PM ET. For all we know, they could merely be opening pre-orders at that moment. Still, if Carphone Warehouse really does plan to release the handset for sale the very day of HTC’s announcement, it’s certainly possible that Verizon could be planning a similar move.

The big question now is if Verizon releases the all-new HTC One on March 25th, does HTC also plan to release the handset on the same day through other major carriers or will they have to wait a bit longer? Thankfully we don’t have much longer before we find out for sure, one way or another.

HTC One M8 set to drop soon after the announcement on March 25

Currently living out in the East Coast. When not on the AndroidPIT grind you can usually find me turning up or play footie.

The release date for the HTC One M8 has been confirmed by Carphone and Warehouse and it is set to drop on the day the phone is announced which is going to be March 25th. This means the arrival of the phone is less than a week away for those of you in the UK at least.

The British retailer recently revealed that six Carphone and Warehouse stores will stock the new phone from HTC One as soon as the launch events in New York and London end. This means that they will be available right from the get go.

The press release from the company read:

"Shortly after [the event], the new HTC One (M8) handsets will be transported directly from the venue of the launch announcement to six Carphone Warehouse stores in London, Westfield Stratford, Westfield White City, Oxford Circus, Centrepoint and Tottenham Court Road stores will all be hosting special events celebrating the HTC launch with entertainment and giveaways as well as the first chance for customers to get their hands on the new device.”

Customers can also buy the HTC One M8 over the phone at that time. This is before the phone becomes fully available online, and from all Carphone and Warehouse stores.

A spokesperson for the company then said that the 2013 version of the HTC One was an award winning device that set a high bar for design in 2013. The company hopes that the new HTC One M8 will continue that trend and ensure that HTC remains a heavy hitting smartphone maker.

The retailer from the UK also provided confirmation of the name of the phone in the HTC One M8 although the company hasn’t disclosed how much the phone will cost unlocked as well as on a carrier contract.

We don’t really know whether this is an exclusive although we suspect that other companies will have the phone in stock on the same day also.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders begin March 24

Samsung Galaxy S5 hands on color size vs all -1160811

T-Mobile will start taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5 next week, on March 24, and it won’t make you put any money down on the phone to get it.

Pre-orders of the new Samsung flagship phone will be available in-store and online on March 24. T-Mobile won’t ask you to put any money down on the smartphone, but you will have to pay 24 monthly installments of $27.50 for the phone. The total cost of the phone comes out to $660. Of course, you can also choose to just pay the $660 outright to avoid the monthly installments on the phone.

Unfortunately, there is no release date given for the Galaxy S5 in the press release. Samsung said the phone will ship sometime in early April worldwide, so those who pre-order hopefully won’t have to wait too long.

To celebrate the start of pre-orders for the Galaxy S5 T-Mobile is offering a discount on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. From now until March 31 T-Mobile will knock $120 off the price of the Android tablet, bringing it down to $192. The tablet comes with 200MB of free data every 30 days, provided you have another registered T-Mobile device in use.

Will you pre-order the Galaxy S5 on T-Mobile when pre-orders go live? Or are you waiting for another phone like the new HTC One?
