rumored specs for the Galaxy K actually looks like a phone

The alleged Galaxy K
Remember the Galaxy S4 Zoom? The smartphone/camera hybrid landed last year with a… well, without a bang. Customers weren’t really swayed by the rather curious device, which combined a Galaxy S4 with a 10X optical zoom telescopic lens. But Samsung isn’t ready to give up on the concept just yet and will reportedly unveil its successor in less than a week, under the Galaxy K brand.
We already learned many of the Galaxy K’s specifications, but now we have two leaked shots suggesting that the device will actually lean more towards a smartphone, rather than a point and shoot camera, at least when it comes to its thickness.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom of last year was not only bulkier overall, but it also featured a protruding section that made it easy to handle, but also added a lot of girth to its profile.

Now Samsung appears to have opted for a pebble-like shape for the device, with only the area around the lens (which itself appears to be smaller than on the first gen) protruding. And, while the first leaked image of the Galaxy K showed a Note 3-like texture, from these pics we can tell that the final product will adopt the dimpled finish found on the Galaxy S5.

To recap, rumored specs for the Galaxy K include:
  • 20.2MP sensor
  • 10X optical zoom
  • 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, 720 x 1280 resolution
  • Samsung Exynos 5 hexa-core, Mali-T624 GPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 2MP front facing camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
Samsung will introduce the Galaxy K on April 29 at an event in Singapore, and that’s when we’ll find out just how much better the device will be compared to its predecessor. Fingers crossed!

LG device leak looks like a precursor to the G3

Kris Carlon

Putting down roots in Berlin after six years of traveling is a major step for Kris Carlon, who has spent more time living out of a tent lately than sitting at a desk. Kris comes to the AndroidPIT Editorial Team via a lengthy period spent writing on art and culture in Australia and other places he has lived. He joined the Android community while resurfacing in civilization back in 2010 and has never looked back, using technology to replace his actual presence in other people's lives ever since.

The LG G3 is not too far away from being announced officially, and we're all keen to see just how LG squeeze that 2K display we had confirmed recently into the chassis of the G2 successor. Notorious leakster @evleaks shared a picture of a Japan-bound device by the name of the Isai FL yesterday, ad we're hoping its tiny bezels are indicative of what LG has planned for the G3 flagship.

I've said before that I expect LG might manage to cram the rumored 5.5-inch QHD screen on the G3 into a chassis not much larger than the existing LG G2, and this latest image certainly seems to show they are capable of reducing the bezels even further. It's still not the bezel-less design many people want, but there's not much in the way of visible frame in this device anyway. Tiny bezels may look sexy, but you've still got to hold the thing.

You may also note that the Isai FL has no more menu button on-screen and the new homescreen icons are a treat for the eyes compared to LG's rather ugly Optimus UI in its present form. There's lots to be excited about by this image, from the tiny bezels to the new UI elements and suspicious new bump on the side. This could be a recessed power button (I always thought the rear-key power button was a bit awkward), or perhaps a microSD card port? With any luck we'll see a lot of this translate to the G3 when it is announced in the coming months, because what we see here, we like.

Are you psyched for the LG G3? What do you want to see the most on the G2 successor?
