This week’s news of Android Wear and stunning smartwatches like the Moto 360 might have us enthralled at the moment, but let’s not forget that there are already quite a few successful smartwatches on the market right now. Probably one of the most well-known examples is the Pebble.
Likely trying to shine some of the spotlight it’s way, Pebble announced yesterday evening that the company has sold a total of 400,000 watches since January 2013. This number combines the original Kickstarter sales with all existing watch sales, including the new Pebble Steel. While not necessarily a massive number, that’s actually pretty solid sales numbers considering the wearable is a niche product from a smaller brand, instead of a massive manufacturer like Samsung, Motorola or LG.
With devices like the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, Gear Fit and the many Android Wear devices heading our way, can Pebble continue to compete? Although this still remains unseen, the Pebble certainly has a headstart on many of these above-mentioned devices and has really been upping its game lately with the release of an appstore and new firmware that brings several enhanced features with it.
What do you think, will Pebble continue to be a large player in the smartwatch market going forward? Impressed by the number of watches sold or did you expect the number to be bigger? Let us know what you think in the comments.
