Gadget Todays,Concept Clean Energy Clock Runs on Dirt
This distinctive clock promises to run on completely free power - no batteries or shops required. The Soil Clock from Dutch designer Marieke Staps uses the natural metabolism of biological life to energy its show, requiring only the periodic addition of water.

The Soil Clock has two small electrodes trailing from it which plug right into the soil. The electrodes contain copper and zinc, metals which work with the soil’s natural electrolytes to create enough clean electricity to keep the clock running virtually indefinitely.

Though the clock can run with simply soil and water, the designer recommends putting vegetation into the soil. That is both to make your complete setup extra beautiful and to remind you to maintain the soil moist. If the vegetation die, you’ll all of a sudden be out of time.
